Jonathan Sekyi is the lucky winner of an all-expense paid trip to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

He took part in Shoprite and Visa’s collaborative “Shop and Win” competition, which encouraged customers to make use of electronic payment methods.

While cash and cheques are still the preferred method of payment in the Ghana, there is high demand for introducing a more convenient way to pay for services. Shoprite and Visa are taking the lead in this regard, helping Ghanaians explore the benefits of using electronic payment methods. Electronic payment methods promote economic inclusion, they are also safer than cash and enable consumers keep track of their money.

Customers were invited to take part in the competition, which launched in May and included three categories. The first category involved shopping on certain days with instant prizes awarded to customers using their Visa cards. Customers could also take part in a game in-store where entrants stood a chance of winning gift vouchers. Lastly, customers had to make a payment using their Visa card in order to be considered for the grand prize – a trip to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Winners for this category were chosen at random.

A handover ceremony was held at the West Hills Mall in Ghana on Saturday, 16 July 2016, at which an excited Sekyi was awarded the grand prize. He jets off to Rio on 3 August where he will join in on the Olympic festivities for 10 days.

Shoprite customers are encouraged to continue using electronic payment options offered in stores, for greater convenience.
