Checkers is upping the shopping game in Cape Town by opening two new stores – one in the heart of the city at the corner of Adderley and Strand Streets, and another in the Southern Suburbs in the upscale Riverlands estate in Observatory, creating more than 240 local jobs.

The retailer has also completed its nationwide rollout of the new Sixty60 app – with some early perks only available to Capetonian shoppers.

The new Sixty60 app has a refined layout and user interface, as well as multi-factor authentication to enhance security. In addition to the wide range of groceries and essentials, the app now offers shoppers in eligible areas precision delivery of products from Checkers Hyper stores.

Over 10,000 larger general merchandise products are available for same-day delivery within precise sixty-minute time slots. This allows customers to avoid lengthy waits and inconvenient all-day delivery times usually associated with household product orders.

Capetonians will receive an elevated Sixty60 experience with 2,500 additional products. This includes 100 new premium brands like Apple, Dyson, Thule, Smeg, Samsung, and Harmon Kardon available only via the Sixty60 app and, for now, exclusively to customers in Kuils River, Brackenfell, Durbanville, Bellville, Goodwood, Edgemead, Milnerton, Century City, Table View, Blouberg, Parklands, Rondebosch, Observatory, Gardens, Sea Point and Camps Bay.

Following a staggered roll-out, the rest of the country will gain access to these extended premium ranges over the coming months.

Cape Town also has two state-of-the-art dark stores, located in Gardens and Maitland, that helps to streamline Sixty60’s service in high-demand areas. These have created employment opportunities for an additional 138 people.  The dark stores aid in stock management and rapid product fulfilment.

The two new supermarkets expand the brand's footprint in areas previously under-serviced by Checkers, bringing a world-class shopping experience and top-notch service not only to local residents, but also the large number of office workers in these areas.
