In a country where 7 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from, Shoprite is taking hands with the humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers who wants to distribute as many food parcels as possible to needy families.
This festive season, from November to December 2017, Shoprite and Checkers customers can help us #ActForChange by donating R5 or more at any till-point to help fight hunger in South Africa.
All proceeds raised will be donated to Gift of the Givers, to help their distribution of food parcels across South Africa.
Shoprite has already contributed 3 500 food parcels to the value of R1 million towards this initiative. Each food parcel can feed a family of 6 for 1 month and consits of 10 kg rice, 10 kg maize, beans, tinned fish, sugar, porridge and biscuits amongst other products.
Hunger relief is a core focus of our corporate social investment programme, which aims to provide effective and sustainable solutions to address short, medium and long-term food scarcity needs in South Africa.
