Shoprite Zambia has opened its 41st store, making it the country’s largest supermarket chain by some margin.
The new Shoprite UNZA offers a one-stop shopping experience for the approximately 30 000 students that attend the nearby University of Zambia, as well as the surrounding community.
The store has a strong focus on unbeatable value, and will be selling key household lines - including breakfast maize meal, cooking oil, potato bags, cabbage, fish, and stewing beef - at rock bottom prices until the end of December 2021.
Offering 15 000 product lines across 3 250m² floor space, Shoprite UNZA procures 88% of its goods and services from local suppliers and agents.
Shoprite UNZA employs 180 workers, of which 51% are female, and 85% are youths. This adds to the already sizeable Shoprite Zambia staff complement of more than 7 000 employees nationally, making it one of the country’s largest private-sector employers.
“We’re very excited to continue growing our footprint of stores in Zambia, and the new Shoprite UNZA will play a significant role in the surrounding community. In particular, we’re excited to welcome the students from the nearby university campus to benefit from our always-low prices.”
- Charles Bota, General Manager of Shoprite Zambia
Shoprite UNZA’s trading hours are 08:00 to 20:00 every day of the year, including public holidays.
