The Shoprite Foundation is supporting the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs through the construction of two new horticultural tunnels at the Oosrand Commerce and Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation in Reigerpark, Boksburg.

The tunnels are a vital resource for the school’s agricultural learning facility, giving students the opportunity to complement their academic studies with hands-on experience in modern farming techniques. With tunnel farming, students can grow produce year-round, gaining valuable skills in horticulture, entrepreneurship, and self-sufficiency.

It also enables the school to use the fresh produce harvested for market days and community sales, helping to support important fundraising efforts.

“We are committed to advancing economic progress in South Africa by equipping our youth with the skills and tools they need to drive innovation in their communities. More than anything, these horticultural tunnels present an opportunity for learners to gain practical skills that will help them in future careers—whether they pursue farming, retail, or entrepreneurship.”
