Responding to reports of extreme hunger and malnutrition in the Nelson Mandela Bay area, the Shoprite Group has donated 500 food parcels to the Missionvale Care Centre in Port Elizabeth.

Food parcels to Missionvale, where there is an ever-increasing number of people without access to food, include tins of baked beans and pilchards, maize meal, sugar, teabags, rice, salt and soup packets.

The donation forms part of Shoprite’s extensive hunger relief programme and its ongoing efforts to assist vulnerable communities across South Africa, including Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Group is committed to the fight against hunger and its Mobile Soup Kitchens have served over 4 million warm meals (which equates to 46 318 cups of soup every month) in the Eastern Cape alone since 2010.
