Celebrating its eighth year as South Africa’s premier accolade for achievement by women, the Shoprite Checkers Woman of the Year Award 2003 has been launched countrywide this week and is moving into the future with the brand new category of Science & Technology.
Keeping pace with South Africa’s important contribution to scientific research, the Science & Technology category will pay tribute to women whose invention or participation in specific research projects has played a significant role in the progress and welfare of our society.
The other categories of the Award are business entrepreneur, health, education, community, arts & culture, sport and media & communications. South Africans have been urged to submit nominations in any of the eight categories.
As a major initiative for National Women’s Day, the Award also enters an exciting era with SABC2 as the new broadcast partner.
The Shoprite Checkers/SABC2 Woman of the Year Award will again aim to identify and pay tribute to the most exceptional and achieving women in the country, whose unswerving commitment and dedication have made a tangible difference to their communities and society as a whole.
The closing date for entries is Friday, 23 May 2003 and nomination forms are available from Shoprite or Checkers stores, via the Internet or by contacting the organisers at sawoman@lantic.net or (011) 465 5225.
After an extensive nationwide search campaign, the Award culminates in August with a spectacular gala ceremony in the Mother City to announce the winners. This dazzling event will be broadcast at 18h00 on SABC2 on Saturday, 9 August 2003 – National Women’s Day.
