South-African singer/songwriter/entertainer Nataniël this week joined forces with Shoprite Checkers to bring joy to social workers who do such phenomenally important work with neglected and abused children in our country.

Nataniël is passionate about helping the children of our country and in 2007 he was appointed as a national ambassador for Child Welfare South Africa (CWSA) to speak out for the protection of children. CWSA is the largest Child Protection and Welfare non-government non-profit organization in South Africa that together with its members provides care and support to child victims of abuse, neglect and exploitation.

On Tuesday 11 November Nataniël surprised hundreds of social workers at the tri-annual South African Child Welfare Convention where he, in partnership with Shoprite Checkers, presented them with 700 cellphones and starter packs. At first dumbstruck at Nataniël’s entrance into their convention room, their silence soon turned into cheers of jubilation and tears of joy as the cell phones – sponsored by MTN, Vodacom and Cell C – were handed out to the social workers.

The social workers work extremely hard, get very little in return for their efforts and struggle to survive out in the field. It was Nataniël’s hope that these cell phones would make their daily task somewhat easier and in so doing lift their spirits and brighten their day.
