All South Africans can help fight cancer by supporting the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)’s annual Cuppa For CANSA campaign that launched on the 1st of June 2012.
Cuppa For CANSA, proudly supported by Shoprite and Checkers, is a fun event that encourages people to enjoy a cup of their favourite beverage and support a great cause by giving a donation to CANSA.
“Shoprite and Checkers have a long and proud association as the main sponsors of the Cuppa For CANSA campaign. This year, we would like to contribute specifically to the care of those cancer survivors who stay at CANSA Care Homes while undergoing treatment and we therefore donating Shoprite and Checkers vouchers to the value of R15 000 each to six of the CANSA Care Homes. It’s our way of supporting the fight against cancer,” says Brian Weyers, a Director of the Shoprite Group.
The Shoprite Group will be donating R15 000 each to the CANSA Keurboom Care Home in Gauteng, the CANSA Eikenhof Care Home in the Western Cape, CANSA Olea Care Home in the Free State, CANSA Theunis Fichardt Hospitium and Care Home in Polokwane, and the CANSA Mkhuhla Care Home in KwaZulu-Natal.
A spokesperson for CANSA stated: “We’re so grateful for the donations we’ve received from the Shoprite Group. The CANSA Care Homes provides home-from-home accommodation as well as transport for patients undergoing cancer treatment nearby and with this generous gift, we can continue providing nutritious and healthy meals.”
The theme for Cuppa For CANSA 2012 is about making smart choices to live a balanced lifestyle. CANSA encourages everyone to embrace healthy lifestyle choices such as exercising regularly, managing your weight, never smoking, being sun smart and eating healthy to help reduce the risk of cancer.
In partnership with CANSA, Shoprite and Checkers have also produced a leaflet with advice on eating right by making Smart Choices as part of leading a balanced lifestyle. These leaflets will be available at CANSA Care Centres countrywide and at the consumer boards or Money Market counters in Shoprite and Checkers stores across the country.
HOST A CUPPA FOR CANSA
CANSA encourages all South Africans to join us in taking part in and help raise funds for CANSA’s health awareness campaigns and services by hosting a Cuppa For CANSA. Cuppas can take on many forms and as a Cuppa host you can be very creative and host big, small, casual or fancy Cuppa’s where you can serve a variety of beverages such as teas, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, soup or delicious fruit smoothies. Laager Rooibos have generously sponsored teabags for our campaign. Great prizes are also up for grabs for the best Cuppa For CANSA hosts: 1st prize: Russell Hobbs Food Steamer (a CANSA Smart Choice) for the 'most money raised' nationally; 2nd Prize: Argilla Tea Set for the Cuppa with 'the best cancer message theme' (Balanced Lifestyle); 3rd prize: 12 x Laager Rooibos gift hampers for 'the most creative Cuppa For CANSA events'.
