Shoprite launched in Nigeria just a little over 10 years ago with the opening of its first store in Lagos in December 2005. Over the past decade Shoprite introduced Nigeria to a world-class shopping experience through its core business promise of lower prices.

Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa, with 16 Shoprite supermarkets across eight states in the Federation. Of the supermarket chain’s 2 300 employees, 99.5% are Nigerian citizens.

Shoprite’s commitment to supporting local enterprise means it has developed relationships with over 300 leading Nigerian suppliers and small businesses. As a result 76% of all products sold are procured locally.

Deloitte’s African Powers of Retailing report, released late in 2015, named Shoprite the number one retailer on the African continent.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Shoprite Nigeria will be giving away more thousands of gift vouchers between 22 February and 10 April 2016, with customers being entered automatically when shopping at one its Nigerian stores.
