The Shoprite Group reaffirmed its commitment to growing its offering in Zambia, with the opening of its 30th store in the country, on Tuesday, 9 August 2016.
Shoprite’s expansion in Zambia continues more than two decades since its launch in 1995, giving more and more consumers access to the everyday low price promise that has propelled the food retailer to become Africa’s largest, and one of its most trusted supermarket chains. The retailer has been able to use its scale and bulk-buying power to keep prices consistently low, a fact which has resonated with Zambian consumers who continue to face a tough economic climate.
Through its network of 30 stores, Shoprite has directly employed and trained more than 4000 local people, created jobs for a further 1,500 service providers, with the new Kabanana store creating more than 90 jobs for locals.
Having reached this significant milestone, the Group is committed to working with all stakeholders to sustain this growth in Zambia. Significant progress is being made on the local sourcing front, with 75% of all products sold in Shoprite stores across the country now being sourced locally, a figure that has improved from just 20% when the retail chain launched in the country.
The Kabanana store combines the convenience of location with consistently low prices to attract consumers who are serious about saving. The new store caters for all customers’ daily and weekly food and household convenience requirements. Over and above the range of food and other goods available, the store features various service departments including a butchery, Bakery, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable department as well as a small Hot and Cold Foods Deli right in the store. Branch Manager Kwandu Simalonda, together with her team is looking forward to welcoming many consumers to the store.
The new store is located at Kabanana Mall, behind the SOS Village, Chazanga Compound in Lusaka and will trade from 08:00-20:00, Monday to Sunday, including public holidays.
