Grace Kachoko dreamed of becoming a pharmacist in her local community of Amalinda, East London

Growing up in Amalinda, East London with her mother and two younger siblings, Grace Kachoko dreamed of becoming a pharmacist in her local community. Soon this dream will become a reality as Kachoko is now studying towatrds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) at Nelson Mandela University thanks to a bursary from the Shoprite Group.  

“I always wanted to do community pharmacy so after school I decided to study a pharmacy technician course. After graduating in 2015, I got a job at MediRite Amalinda. I then discovered that Shoprite offered bursaries so I took the opportunity to enroll for my BPharm.”

Now in her first year at Nelson Mandela University, Kachoko says the bursary was a huge relief as it was difficult for her mother to raise three children alone.

“It’s not just financial support that helps. I am now guaranteed a job at MediRite and I really enjoy working there. Shoprite knows how to show they care about their people and hopefully I will even get the chance to do my Masters degree.”
