MediRite pharmacies will be offering free blood pressure and cholesterol testing between 23 and 29 September in support of World Heart Day on 29 September.

To make use of this free service, customers are urged to make an appointment at their nearest MediRite, where a friendly, qualified pharmacist will administer the blood pressure test.

“Cardiovascular disease is among the top three causes of death in sub-Saharan Africa; therefore it is important to protect your heart by having your blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked regularly. Both Hypertension or high blood pressure and high cholesterol have no major symptoms and the only way to know if you are at risk is to have yourself tested. High blood pressure and high levels of cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of heart disease. I would encourage all South Africans to make use of this excellent opportunity to have their blood pressure and cholesterol tested.”

- Prof Liesl Zühlke, President of the South African Heart Association
