A new state-of-the-art Shoprite Mansa supermarket reopened its doors last week following a devastating fire in 2016.

“We have been serving customers in the Luapula province for the past 19 years and with the re-opening of our Mansa store, we remain as committed as ever to provide our loyal customers with the best service possible.”

- Charles Bota, General Manager of Shoprite Zambia

A fire forced the closure of Shoprite Mansa in October 2016 and in a bid to continue serving the community and to save the jobs of its employees, Shoprite opened a smaller temporary store just four weeks later and swiftly began the rebuilding process.

“We transferred excess staff to other stores during this period, ensuring that no jobs were lost as result of the fire.”

- Charles Bota

Shoprite introduced Zambia to world-class shopping through its core business promise of lower prices when the supermarket chain first opened in Lusaka in 1995.

Today Africa’s largest food retailer employs almost 4 000 staff members across 34 stores in Zambia.

Shoprite is also firmly committed to the communities in which it operates and partners, for example, with Zambian farmers who produce 85% of its fruit and vegetable supplies.

As a business with heart, Shoprite continues to operate its mobile soup kitchen programme to feed learners in Zambia and helps to build sustainable food gardens to relieve hunger.
