#GivingTuesday marks the start of the Shoprite Group’s season of giving. In addition to hosting parties for thousands of underprivileged children across South Africa, this year the Group is also assisting a children’s home in Khayelitsha with much-needed fundraising following a devastating fire.
The children of the Zanokhanyo Children’s Safety Home in Khayelitsha were left destitute when their place of shelter burned down earlier this month. Fortunately none of the children were harmed, but the building was completely destroyed by the fire.

The estimated cost to repair the damage is R240 000. Shoprite reached out to Backabuddy to set up a crowdfunding campaign for the Zanokhanyo Children’s Safety Home and pledged R10 000 to kick it off.
Giving back to communities across SA
Every year the Shoprite Group hosts Christmas parties for thousands of underprivileged children and elderly citizens across the country. Today, on #GivingTuesday, the Group hosted its first party of the season at Come one, come all, an early childhood development centre in Vrygrond near Muizenberg in the Western Cape.
Another way the Group is giving back to communities this festive season is through the gift-wrapping service in both its Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets.
“This hugely successful initiative has been running for years. Charitable organisations are invited to manage our in-store gift wrapping stations and keep all the proceeds they make. It is a fantastic fundraising opportunity.”
