MediRite, the chain of pharmacies located inside Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets, is piloting its first Smart Clinic. It aims to make healthcare more accessible and affordable by leveraging technological advancements in the medical industry.
The new Smart Clinic, conveniently located inside the Checkers Hyper Parow in Parow Centre in the Western Cape, is able to offer an array of basic healthcare services by making use of digital health technology such as telehealth, which connects trained nursing professionals to a network of doctors.
Telehealth uses digital information and communication technologies to access healthcare services remotely. The nursing professional will ensure that all the necessary patient data is captured and (if needed) facilitate a video consultation with a doctor. The doctor, in turn, will use the information provided to make an assessment, provide a treatment plan, order special investigations or refer a patient if needed.
While this concept can not be used to treat every ailment, it provides a quick and convenient alternative when an assessment of symptoms is required.

MediRite will always be guided by its customers and, if there is demand, will roll out additional Smart Clinics in the future.
Operating hours for the Smart Clinic at the MediRite in the Checkers Hyper Parow are 09:00 - 18:00 from Mondays to Fridays.
