“I dreamt of working in retail since I was a little boy assisting my uncle, who worked in retail, during school holidays,” says Katleho Moeketsi (39), from Engcobo in the Eastern Cape.

He took the first step towards realising his dream by obtaining a National Diploma in Retail Management from the University of Johannesburg. Shortly thereafter he started his journey at the Shoprite Group as a Trainee Manager.

During his 15 years with the retailer, he has shown great leadership and held various positions – including Sales Manager, Branch Manager and Regional Manager – before taking up the position of Deputy Divisional Manager for Usave Northern Division.

“I aspired to be just like my uncle – hardworking and dedicated. He helped me realise my passion for retail. It is a challenging career, but it serves no use dwelling on these challenges – one must learn from them."
